Jørgen Callesen is the artistic director of the live art venue Warehouse9 in Copenhagen (est* 2007). During 2009-2011 Warehouse9 has produced more that 140 events within experimental dance, music, theater, film, photograpy, film and visual art including 3 international festivals presenting Live Art, Burlesque, New Cabaret and Performance Art.
He holds a Ph.D. in information & media studies from Århus University and studied puppetry at The Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Art, Berlin, Germany and butoh with Kitt Johnson, X-act, Copenhagen, DK.
Hes worked as a teacher and developer at Space Invaders and as a researcher/media artist at Information & Media Studies, Århus University and Interactive Institute, Mälmö, Sweden.
He has guest lectured at SMART LAB, St. Martins College of Art, London, The Royal Academy of Art, Copenhagen, Berlin University of the Arts, Germany, Bergen National Academy of the Arts, Norway, Norwegian Theater Academy, Frederiksstad, Norway amongst others.
As a practicing artist he has done several art actions, performances, lectures and installations to question norms and challenge aesthetics regarding gender and identity. The pieces have been presented in different formats and venues ranging from art academies, galleries, theater festivals, TV interviews, electro concerts, DJ sets, public interventions etc.
